A Silver Soaking: The Women’s Olympic Road Race:
As the helicopters came hovering over the horizon, so too did the lightning. The umbrellas shot up along Kingston Bridge where hundreds of spectators had gathered to watch to see if the women could do what the men couldn’t the day before in the Olympic Road Race.
As Lizzie Armitstead came past in the front group, the cheering, the whistling, the celebrating began. Lizzie’s gritted face powering through the streams of water were uplifting. As the peloton came past, you knew the medal was Lizzie’s for the taking.
But with all the action sweeping past, the crowd dashed for shelter. We made it to a local technology store to catch the finish online. A few geeks gave a few weird looks when a loud cheer came up from behind one of the screens as GB won it’s first medal!
Well worth the soaking!
