Pop-Up Mini Olympics:
In the middle of The Malborough Playground in SE1, 50,000 sq feet of concrete has been transformed into Southwark’s own Mini Olympics.
The Pop-up Mini Olympics have been running for a few weeks and have so far gone by as a small, fairly unnoticed little treasure in the middle of a school.
But with 1 week to go before London 2012 rocks into town, the festival is picking up speed. So much so that it might extend its original programme right the way through till September.
The site is covered with sports activities including a sprint track, giant sand pit for beach volleyball, small tennis courts, a boxing ring and a five-a-side football pitch - right in the heart of a central London community.
The programme includes lots of coached events and activities for children. The buzz of this place is now picking up!

The only new build for the 1948 Olympic Games in London was this road from Wembley Park station to Wembley Stadium.
Now that is austerity!

GB Taekwondo Resembles England Football Team

Alas, with each passing day, the suspicion grows that British taekwondo is inching dangerously close to what we might call the England football tournament experience – that strange state of affairs wherein watching England infight and implode their way to a championship is considerably more entertaining than watching a minute of their performance once they get there. For those of us yet to fully immerse ourselves in the discipline, Olympic taekwondo is going to have to be pretty darned spectacular to beat the backbiting, bloodletting, and other unauthorised moves that appear to constitute Olympic taekwondo selection.
